In “Shattered”, I tell a part of the story of my long-time pen & paper characters: Elodie – a fire mage – and Daevas, a kind of demon or the mysterious voice inside her head. Told from Elodie’s perspective, the song explores her conflicting feelings for Daevas as well as her journey toward self-discovery – learning to accept and love both herself and him in all their facets. It’s the first in a series of songs that will tell the story of the two.
Although the song is written from my character’s point of view and tells her story, I realized during the writing process that a lot of myself found its way into the lyrics and the creative journey as well. Because beyond Elodie’s and Daevas’s story, it’s also about finding yourself – and learning to accept and love all parts of who you are, even the seemingly negative sides and emotions.

“Gloomdancer” is the prequel to my song “Shattered” and explores the perspective of my character Daevas, Elodie’s dark soulmate. Trapped in a bleak and shadowy world, Daevas falls in love with Elodie, whom he discovers and watches through a mirror. He recognizes himself in her and sees her as his salvation from his loneliness. Through flattery and seduction, he convinces her to follow him into his world, binding their souls together.
